Sparks in the park
Our Independence Day Community Firework Show is STILL ON for Friday, July 3, 2020!
This year, COVID-19 has brought many of our annual events and gatherings to a screeching halt. Our Chamber Board decided it was in the best interest of community health not to have the SummerFest event this year, but we are so pleased to be able to still present a Community Fireworks Show that residents and out-of-towners alike can enjoy safely from their own vehicles or in small group gatherings.
There will be no vendors, band or special event this year surrounding our Community Fireworks Show, but we still want to spread the word that the fireworks are happening and encourage everyone to get out and watch the show!
“Since we are not taking on extra costs normally incurred with hosting the SummerFest event, this will actually be our biggest fireworks display yet!” Kendell Wolfe, Chamber Communications Manager says.
We are planning to launch the show Friday, July 3 at dark, around 9 p.m.or just after. The launch site is across from the Atlanta Fire Department on S. Louise Street and the show will be visible all over town as long as viewers find a spot with no immediate obstructions to block their view.
Atlanta’s show is impressive every year, and something our community can look forward to.
We want to remind everyone to consider the safety of their pets and animals, which are often frightened of fireworks. Some tips from the RSPCA are: 1) prepare a “safe space” where your dogs and cats can easily hide. 2) walk your dogs in daylight and then keep them inside during the fireworks show. 3) put on music or the television to mask the sound of fireworks and cover windows that might provide a view of explosions. 4) Provide a secure area for pets and animals so they do not run away and become lost as fireworks can be disorienting. 5) Make sure your pets have collars that properly fit with up-todate contact information and make sure your pet’s microchip info is current.
