Early voting begins June 29
Early voting in the Democratic primary runoff begins June 29 through July 2 and July 6 through July 10 in the Linden Voting Building. Election day is July 14.
Cass County Clerk Amy Varnell said that anyone who voted by mail in March in the Democratic Primary will automatically get a ballot by mail.
For those who did not vote by mail but choose to do so in the runoff, July 2 is the last day the clerk’s office can accept an application for mail-in ballot.
“Anyone 65 or older can vote by mail. Those who will be out of the county both during early voting and election day is eligible to vote by mail”, Varnell said, “Per the election code, the ballot must be mailed to an address outside of the county.”
Applications for mail-in ballots may also be granted based on disability and are specifically reserved for “those who are legitimately ill and cannot vote in-person without assistance or jeopardizing their health”, according to a written statement Friday by Attorney General Ken Paxton.
A recent Texas Supreme Court decision held that “a voter may not claim disability for the purpose of casting a ballot by mail merely because the voter lacks immunity to COVID-19.”
Varnell encourages participants to take precautions before entering polling stations such as washing hands and using hand sanitizer.
