Extended closures on 59 not expected

There has been some confusion about a message board near the rest area on Highway 59 between Atlanta and Linden. There are signs that say there will be closures. Marcus Sandifer, from TxDOT Atlanta, said “there is a fiber optic contractor that is doing some work near the rest area between Linden and Atlanta along US Highway 59. They are the ones that put up the portable message boards with the wrong wording.”

“They cannot (because we will not let them) close down Highway 59 for their work for any length of time. They are supposed to be running some lines across the highway there on Sunday morning, but should not have the highway closed for more than 15 minutes. We have been trying to get in contact with the contractor to get them to change the message on the signs to ‘traffic delays.’ The signs should be changed by this Monday, June 1, 2020,” explained Sandifer.
