Brookshires honors local food pantry for their work during the pandemic
Rebecca’s Pantry, a 501 C3 food ministry located at West Side Baptist Church, received a check for $2,000 on May 7, 2020, from the Brookshire’s Corporation. The letter attached to the check stated “Thank you for the work your organization is doing during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful for your efforts to serve the members of our communities who are facing challenges during this unprecedented time.”
Brookshire’s Grocery Company made a significant pledge to food banks throughout its market area. When Rebecca’s Pantry received the generous donation, they were informed that they would receive another similar check in the spring of 2021. They will also receive some more donations at the end of May 2020 that have been collected at the local Atlanta Brookshire’s store.
Rebecca’s Pantry volunteer Judy Ragsdale was very appreciative. She said they had no idea they were going to receive such a large donation. “That is just how God works. We had just gotten word that there would not be a ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ annual postal workers food drive the second weekend in May this year because of Covid-19. We always count on the post office food drive to carry us through the summer months. God was showing us that ‘He’s got this’, He is in control.” The pantry has also received several nice donations from other individuals, locally, and also out of state, during the Coronavirus crisis.
Rebecca’s Pantry has been operating since the middle of March as a drive-thru food ministry. The clients do not leave their cars, groceries are brought out to them by volunteers wearing face masks. The number of families being ministered to has more than doubled due to so many people losing their jobs. If anyone would like to donate, either monetary or grocery donation, they may do so by coming by the church, 712 W. Main, on Mondays or Thursdays or by calling West Side Baptist Church 903-796-3279.
