Board votes to hire new teachers
The Queen City ISD board of directors held its regular meeting on Monday and welcomed new board member, Phillip Hamilton, who ran unopposed after former board member, Shawn Fitzgerald, chose not to run for reelection.
Hamilton was sworn in alongside Vice President Dusty Wiley. Also reelected for the 2020-2021 term are President Jonathan Stanmore and Secretary Jennifer Stringer.
The board voted to hire five new teachers for the district. Cole Davis will be working in the middle school special education program, Cherry Jennings will teach math at the high school, Morgan Chunn will teach music at the elementary, Kayla Cole will teach reading at the elementary, and Lauren Tillford will teach fourth-grade math.
School lunch prices will be increasing in the upcoming school year. For high school it will go up to three dollars, for middle school it will go up to two dollars and ninety cents, and for the elementary school, it will go up to two dollars and eighty cents. Also increasing will be the adult breakfasts to two dollars and fifty cents.
Also discussed was the upcoming school year’s calendar. At this time, the calendar is on hold until further notice due to discussions at the state government level of a possible year-round school calendar.
The board thanked Sandy Gillespie for her donation of musical items to the elementary school.
All minutes, tax reports, expenditures, and financial reports from April were approved. It was reported that every two years the school district is required to undergo a safety audit. This year, Queen City ISD passed the audit and is considered a safe school district.
The next school board meeting will be Jun. 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Thornton Administration Building, 1015 Houston St. in Queen City.
