WHAT’S COOKING?
“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” This quote from Abigail Adams rings in my ears as the sun comes up from a frightening and scary storm over Linden. Thankfully, none were hurt and only structural damage was done. We are a strong community. Together, we will rebuild.
This week I have a sweet recipe by an even sweeter lady, Sandy Wells. Mrs. Wells has been involved in everything Linden for many years. She shared this recipe with me recently, the last time we had coffee together. Grab those apron strings yall, and let’s get to cooking Cass County!
Sannie’s Apple Pie
Ingredients:
5 Granny Smith apples, sliced thin
½ tsp. Salt
1 tbsp. Lemon juice
¾ cup Sugar
2 tbsp. All Purpose flour
½ tsp. Vanilla
¾ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 Box refrigerated pie crust
½ tsp. Nutmeg
To Prepare: Preheat oven to 375. Place pie crust in a 9 inch glass plate. Press firmly against sides and bottom. In a large mixing bowl, mix all ingredients together. Spoon into pie plate. Top with second crust. Press edges together to seal. Cut slits in the middle of the pie, any design you choose. Bake for 40 minutes. Cool for 30 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Thank you so much Sandy Wells for your recipe! If you would like to submit a recipe that tastes like home, email rastrutton78@gmail.com. As always, remember that love is the best ingredient you can add. See you next week.
