Small business resources
For those who own a small business, this can be a very trying time. One has poured so much of their life, made sacrifices, watched their dreams grow into reality, and now all of the hard work has been put on hold. Business plans have to be rearranged for the current climate. One may shift their focus to selling on line or curb side pickup. There are also those who may have to close entirely for health reasons. For those uncertain with what to do next, there are a plethora of resources available.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering guidance for small businesses with daily webinars from their Houston district Office along with a questions and answers. They are also offering assistance with applying for Economic Disaster Loans, including what forms are needed and what documents are required. The IRS is also offering general information, the option for a payment plan, and have extended their filing and payment deadline to July 15.
The Office of the Governor has a website that contains a wealth of resources and information for small business owners. This includes webinars, updates on current guidelines set in place by Governor Abbott, and links to Texas Workforce Commission, U.S. Department of Treasury, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Disaster Preparedness and Recovery. According to the site, as of April 15, the SBA is unable to accept new applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan or the Paycheck Protection Program.
Other resources one may consider are Community Development Financial Institutions such as PeopleFund, LiftFund, or SCL of Texas. Opportunity Finance Network’s website ofn.org has a locator tool to help find the right CDFI. More specific resources can be found at the National Restaurant Association, National Retail Federation, and the Texas International Produce Association.
