QCISD breaks ground at Smith-Wall Stadium
Ground was ceremonially broken at 9 a.m. Monday in Queen City to kick off the Smith-Wall Stadium Improvement Project at Queen City ISD.
The project includes construction of one new building and the renovation of two existing structures and is expected to be completed by Aug. 1 of this year.
The new building will house a concession area, new restrooms, a locker room for officials and some additional storage areas.
Just outside the concession area, a cook pavilion will be constructed where the current home side concession and restrooms are located.
Renovation of the current visitor’s side restrooms will provide a locker room for the visiting teams and the current Bulldog Field House will also undergo a facelift.
Reasoning behind the upgrade includes the poor condition of the current buildings and a lack of space. The current buildings were erected in 1974 and required more of a financial investment to bring them up to speed than the district thought was practical given the current state of the structures.
After much consideration, the Board voted unanimously to go forward with the project last Fall.
At the groundbreaking, Dr. Williams said, “I am excited for the district to have this opportunity to continue making progress and improving our facilities. These improvements will benefit our district and community for years to come.”
