J.K. Hileman STARS enjoy growing gardens at home

J.K.Hileman students in the STARS Program are enjoying growing their own gardens at home.

Using “Growums” kits, students are able to grow their own pizza, herb, salad, or taco garden.

The kits are normally one of the STARS program’s spring projects, but were sent home this year because of the extended school closure.

This remarkable experience is made possible by Price Hardware who provided the kits which include the help of interactive characters who coach the students in a fun online experience.

Fourth grader, Ruston Alexander said, “The best part of the project has been just watching it grow. I was surprised at how quickly it happened. One day they were seeds, and a couple of days later, there were sprouts.”

As the students learn through the process of raising their own food, it’s obvious that vegetables aren’t the only thing growing through this activity.
