First Farm Fresh Finds held April 11
The benefits of a farmers market to small towns and communities are numerous. From providing fresh produce to communities to increasing foot traffic for small, locally owned businesses, farmer’s markets are a wonderful addition to towns.
While most think of farmers markets as a place to get locally grown fruits and vegetables, there is so much more that can be found at them.
Handcrafted items such as soaps and lotions can also be found at these markets. The markets also offer the chance for neighbors to visit. Indeed they are becoming a staple in many communities across the U.S.
On March 10, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office held the first of two meetings to generate interest in starting a farmers market in Linden.
Turnout for the first meeting was phenomenal and those in attendance were excited about the prospect of having a farmers market in Linden.
Mayor Clarence Burns and City Manager Bob Swisher both were in attendance and offered many insights into where a more permanent home for the farmers market could be.
As for now, there is a small sight designated next to the Dollar General, but the city is looking into other places that would be better suited to hold more vendors and thus offer more options for shoppers.
For health and safety reasons, the second meeting, which was scheduled for March 17, has been postponed until further notice. During the first meeting, however, it was agreed that a temporary farmers market will be held on April 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Vendors will be set up on the south side of the Courthouse with that area of the street closed off to traffic.
The Farm Fresh Finds farmers market will coincide with both Second Saturday and Treasure Trails.
If you are looking for more information or to become a vendor at the first Farm Fresh Finds farmers market, please reach out via the Farm Fresh Finds Linden Facebook page or call (903) 756-5391.
There will be no charge for vendors.
