L.A. Martin brings the Old Rugged Cross to you
The Cross has stood as a symbol of Christianity for more than 1,700 years.
And for the past 30 years Mr. L.A. Martin, a local carpenter, has been making crosses to take to people in the community.
Mr. Martin, the twin of Mr. L.K. Martin who passed a few years ago, is married to Mrs. Francis Martin who is also well respected in the community.
His wife said he has made thousands of hand-held crosses in which he gives away without accepting payment.
He has made both big crosses and little ones.
Mrs. Francis is an encourager of her husband and she keeps an eye on him as he works.
Mr. Martin has made good impressions on several people in the community; many of whom are grateful.
It’s possible there isn’t anyone locally who has made as many crosses as Mr. Martin has over the past 30 years.
The Martins are both in their 80’s and this small gesture of good will can be seen as a ministry.
As part of Black History Month, which was in February, members in the community wanted to make sure Mr. Martin was recognized for being just one of many locally who go above and beyond and no one knows about them or what they do.
