Flu closes local schools
On Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday Jan. 24, both Linden-Kildare CISD and McLeod ISD were closed due to the flu. The school districts decision to cancel school for the rest of the week came after several parents of students and staff reported positive for the flu and concern for students and staff not yet affected by the illness.
While the schools were closed, staff spent time sanitizing classrooms and other areas of the buildings. The Fairview Community Center of Linden also donated items such as sanitizing cleaning wipes, Lysol spray, and hand sanitizer to the elementary to help keep the school sanitized.
So far this flu season, the CDC has reported at least 15 million flu illnesses, 140,000 hospitalizations, and 8,200 deaths from the flu. In light of these staggering numbers, schools are asking that if your child has been sick with the flu or any other illness that you keep them at home.
