African Children’s Choir performs
Africa. It is the second-largest continent and the second most populated continent. It is also considered by some as the place where humans first walked. It is a wondrous, vast, beautiful land. Home to some 877 million people, it is also the poorest continent. One organization seeks to help children in Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, and Kenya, which are some of the most in-need parts of Africa.
The African Children’s Choir has set out to make a major difference in the lives of so many children who live in abject poverty. The Choir is composed of children from Africa who have suffered the loss of one or both of their parents due to the ravages of famine, disease, and war. The children are given a safe place to live, healthy food to eat, and most importantly, an education. This allows the kids an opportunity to grow into strong leaders, not only in their local communities but also in the whole of Africa and build a better future for their land.
Indeed, the choir possesses a passion and soulfulness for the music they sing. Combining traditional African dancing, lyrics sang not only in English, but also in their own languages, and drum performances, one can certainly feel the heartbeat of a continent so full of spirit and life.
The choir gave a spirit-filled performance to a full house on Jan. 8, at Faith Community Church of the Nazarene. Those in attendance found the performance powerful and meaningful.
