Atlanta Basketball
Atlanta battled Sabine Dec. 10, and came out on top, 75-67, with Daimion Collins posting 26 points, Hunter Allen 24 and J.J. Fields 11.
Bloomburg Basketball
The Bloomburg Lady Wildcats took on Maud at home last Friday night and defeated the Lady Cardinals, 43-23. Haylee Breedlove scored 24 points including five three pointers. Braylee Harrist chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and three blocks. Madison Clayton, Karli Sheffield and Dai’lynn Gearlds added four points each, Kamryn Calhoun controlled the lane defensively with five blocked shots and Carley Castagnetta added two steals and five pass deflections. The team moved to 10-2 on the season and will play Cumby at home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and will travel to Mt. Pleasant to take on CHAAMP at 6 p.m. on Friday.
McLeod Basketball
The Longhorns and Lady Longhorns battled Redwater Dec. 10. The boys ran its record to (8-0) after dominating the Dragons, 84-32. Trevor Deel had 26 points and 14 boards, Kobe Bonner had 18 points with eight rebounds and five assists and Casey Smith added 11 points. The JV team won, 38-23, with Mason Teer scoring eight points, Gabe Groves seven points and Braden Parker seven points. The Lady ’Horns won, 46-39, over the Lady Dragons. Kaitlyn Cross led the way with 11 points, Ella Lambeth added 10 points and eight rebounds, Sibbie Comer had eight boards and both Cary May and Gracie Lance had nine points apiece. Redwater won the JV girls’ game, 20-14, with Chassie Gryder scoring 12 points for McLeod. Dec. 13, the Lady Longhorns hosted Waskom. The game was close throughout but McLeod came away with a, 39-33, victory. Kaitlyn Cross had 14 points with five steals, Sibbie Comer had eight points with six boards and five steals and Ella Lambeth added eight points.
Junior High
Both McLeod junior high basketball programs were in action versus Clarksville recently. The young Lady Longhorns won, 22-18, with Kensley Cross posting 10 points. The boys’ team won, 28-23, with Jaxon Smith contributing nine points, Parker Patrick eight and Kannon Dempsey six.
McLeod Tournament
Day 1
On the first day of action McLeod topped county foe Queen City, 58-29, with Casey Smith scoring 13 points and posting seven steals, Kobe Bonner added 11 points, Gilmore nine, Nos Gryder eight with seven assists and nine rebounds and Trevor Deel had seven points. Dylan Scott led QC with 19 points. The junior varsity team fell to Avery’s varsity squad, 68-38, with Ethan Armstrong recording 18 points and Braden Parker 10 points. In another contest McLeod beat New Diana, 64-20. Trevor Deel had 16 points with 13 boards, Kobe Bonner added 14 points with five assists and 10 rebounds and both Parker and Gryder had nine points apiece. New Diana topped McLeod’s JV, 59-27, with Mason Teer scoring eight points, Parker added six points and Armstrong six points. Before the lunchtime hour Avery beat Maud, 75-60, and Atlanta beat Maud, 82-44 and after lunch rush the Rabbs beat Queen City, 76-30. In the Atlanta game against Maud Hunter Allen scored 25 points, Alex Boston 18, J.J. Fields 14 and Kameron Dickerson 12. Against QC Dickerson led the way with 17, Collins added 16, Allen 13 and Fields 12.
Day 2
The second day of action began with Atlanta thumping New Diana, 91-44, and that game was followed by Maud’s varsity team topping McLeod’s JV team, 56-37. In the Rabbs’ game against New Diana Daimion Collins scored a game high 35 points, Hunter Allen posted 19 points and Alex Boston 12. Avery beat Queen City, 44-26, Maud defeated New Diana, 62-31, Queen City beat McLeod’s JV team, 42-36, and McLeod destroyed Avery, 81-38. In the game against QC Braden Parker scorched the nets with 13 points and Gabe Groves added 10. Damir Rascoe led QC with 17 points. In the contest against Avery, Trevor Deel went off for 23 points and 10 boards, Casey Smith had 19 points, Kobe Bonner 13 and Tyler Williams 10. The anticipated game of the tourney didn’t disappoint as McLeod and Atlanta met in the 1 p.m. contest. Atlanta led, 14-12, after one quarter of play and was up, 34-24, at the break but a, 27-21, run in the second half belonged to the Longhorns. In the end Atlanta handed McLeod its first loss of the season with a, 55-51, victory. Trevor Deel led McLeod with 17 points and 15 rebounds, Kobe Bonner had 10 points and Casey Smith added nine. Hunter Allen paced the Rabbs with 18 points, Daimion Collins had 15 Caleb Hamilton had 11 and Kameron Dickerson 10.
Day 3
In day three action Maud defeated Queen City, 69-47, Avery beat New Diana, 65-62, and QC topped New Diana, 57-44. McLeod beat Maud, 53-24, with Trevor Deel putting up 18 points with 10 boards, Kobe Bonner added 11 points and five boards, Casey Smith posted nine points Gilmore had eight and Schubert seven. Atlanta decimated Avery, 78-38, with Daimion Collins scoring 20, Hunter Allen 18 and Caleb Hamilton 10. All five Atlanta starters earned All-Tournament honors: Daimion Collins, Hunter Allen, Kameron Dickerson, Caleb Hamilton and Alex Boston. At the end of the tourney Atlanta wrapped up first place (5-0), McLeod was second (4-1) and Avery third (4-2).
M.U.M.S. Basketball Girls
The M.U.M.S. Lady Bulldogs took on Hooks last week. The seventh grade team lost in a close game, 21-20 with Laterika Jackson scoring 10 points; Queen City’s eighth grade A team won, 30-24, with Alex Larry scoring 11 points and the eighth grade B team fell, 6-5, with Laurel Moore posting three points. The Queen City Middle School Lady Bulldogs took on Redwater recently AS WELL. In the seventh grade A game QC won, 15-9, with Brenna Turbeville leading the way with seven points. In the eighth grade A game QC won, 18-12, with Mallori Stringer and Serenity Oden scoring six points each. In the eighth grade B game Redwater won, 16-8, with Halissya Green posting six points.
Boys
The M.U.M.S. boys’ basketball program hosted Redwater Dec. 9. The seventh grade varsity team (2-1) lost, 30-6, with Kamron Andrews, Brayden Wiley and Sebastian Aleman scoring two points each. The eighth grade varsity team (2-1) rolled, 48-18, with Logan Chamblee pouring in 10 points, Clint Wiley nine, Rylee Green seven and both Nicolas Herring and Delvon Federick chipping in six points apiece. The eighth grade JV team (3-0) won, 23-8, over the Dragons with Lathan Chamblee scorching the nets with 14 points and Corban Farmer adding four.
