Finding big deals by shopping small in Linden

Black Friday may seem like the best day for Christmas deals, but Small Business Saturday is where it’s at. Shops in downtown Linden were open Saturday with all kinds of extra special sales. With 50% off many items at the Olde 1852 Market Company and The Gingerbread offered up fresh organic culinary wreaths for sale in the shop or made to order. The Groovy Armadillo served up the Christmas spirit with their Magic Mailbox, a special mailbox that sends letters to Santa directly to the North Pole. Elegant Etching & Etcetera was also open for Small Business Saturday in their new location at 121 West Houston.

Small Business Saturday was first observed in 2010. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday promote big box retail and e-commerce stores, Small Business Saturday aims to spotlight small, locally-owned brick and mortar businesses. This campaign also fosters a wonderful sense of community and support for those who have put their hearts and souls into making a dream come true.

The special shopping day is held once a year on the Saturday following Black Friday and during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. And with approximately 67 cents of every dollar spent at small businesses staying in the community, this one day can have a huge positive impact in communities. Indeed, shopping small is the perfect way to support your community.
