M.U.M.S. Girls

Morris Upchurch Middles School’s girls’ basketball program played against Red Lick last week. Redlick won the seventh grade game, 17-11. The top scorer for QC was Laterika Jackson with eight points. The young Lady Bulldogs won the eighth grade contest, 43-33, with Jamecia Cook pouring in 16 points.

M.U.M.S. Boys

The Morris Upchurch Middles School’s boys’ basketball program also battled Red Lick last week. The seventh grade varsity team won, 25-17, with Brayden Wiley posting nine points, Hunter Parker seven, Messiah Grundy six, Kamron Andrews four and Kaleb Francisco two. The seventh grade JV team lost, 9-4. Edward Langston scored all four points for the young Bulldogs. The eighth grade varsity team won, 32-27, with Logan Chamblee putting up 14 points, Rylee Green eight, and Trevonne Horsley, Nicolas Herring, Kaden Satterfield and Mason Stringer adding two points each. The eighth grade JV team won, 18-8, with Lathan Chamblee scoring six points, Lajavion Martin and Isaac Thomas- four points apiece and Jeremiah Henderson and Mason Campbell two points each.

McLeod Boys

The McLeod varsity boys’ team took on Genoa Central Nov. 19, and came away with a, 70-34, victory. The Longhorns posted a, 23-9, score at the end of one quarter and had a, 44-16, lead at the break. Trevor Deel led the way for the ’Horns with 24 points, Kobe Bonner added 18 and Nos Gryder had seven. The JV Longhorns fell to Genoa Central, 42-18, with Mason Teer scoring nine points for McLeod.

McLeod Girls

The Lady Longhorns fell to Genoa Central, 31-26, with Sibbie Comer putting up eight points and both Cary May and Kaitlyn Cross pouring in six points each.

McLeod Boys

The Longhorns topped Beckville, 67-37, in round ball action Nov. 18, in the Union Grove Tournament. McLeod (2-0) jumped out to a, 21-6, lead after one and had a comfortable, 40-17, lead at halftime. Kobe Bonner led the way with 22 points and Trevor Deel added 18. In the second game of the Union Grove tourney the Longhorns blazed to a, 31-14, halftime lead over Como-Pickton and won, 56-32, to run its record to (3-0). Keldyn Schubert had 18 points with seven assists and six boards for McLeod, Dell had 14 points with nine rebounds and Bonner had 12 points with four rebounds. In the championship game McLeod (4-0) beat Quitman, 63-44. Bonner scored 15 points and had seven rebounds, Deel had 13 points and a game-high 16 boards, Casey Smith added 13 points with four assists and five rebounds and Silas Murdock had 12 points.

QC Girls

The Queen City Lady Bulldogs defeated James Bowie in the DeKalb Tournament, 50-31. Hannah Fitts led QC with 19 points, Nyla Harrison added 11 and Cierra Brady had seven.
