Atlanta ISD receives statewide award
Atlanta ISD was recently awarded a 2018-2019 Top Ten Achievement Award in the UIL Lone Star Cup. The Top Ten Award is given to districts that are the top ten finalists of the coveted Lone Star Cup each year. The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. Honoring the best overall athletic and academic programs in Texas, the UIL Lone Star Cup is open to all UIL participant high schools. The Lone Star Cup awards are based on the high schools’ overall team achievement in sanctioned UIL Academic/Athletic/Music championships.
AISD Superintendent Sidney Harrist says, “The Top Ten Achievement Award in the Lone Star Cup is the perfect example of our dedication to providing a well-rounded education to all students in Atlanta ISD. We place a high value on
the benefits of extracurricular activities in academics, band, and sports, and the team building aspects of UIL competitions are one of the things that keep our competitive spirit alive. Team building facilitates better communication, motivates students, promotes creativity, and develops problem-solving skills.”
“We are so proud of our students for achieving this honor.”
Other 3A districts in the top ten were Brock, Wall, Holliday, Lago Vista, Blanco, Bushland, Corpus Christi London, Grandview, and Malakoff. Atlanta ISD previously won the Championship in the UIL Lone Star Cup in 2001-2002.
