A major historical data acquisition

Jackie Icenhower, Director of the Atlanta Public Library, has, through a special arrangement with the Cass County Clerk’s Office, purchased a digital copy of Cass County Real Estate Records dating back to 1846. This data includes over 545,000 individual documents describing real estate transactions and a comprehensive index. The Library has partnered with Cass County Genealogical Society to provide access to this database. These documents are important for historical and genealogical research and complement the millions of records already available in the local history/genealogical section of the library.

Work is currently under way to index the City of Atlanta’s Mayor’s Criminal Court dockets capturing the beginning of recorded history for Atlanta.

The Mayor of the city held court for such offenses as cursing in public, engaging in “an affray” or disturbing the peace. For more information please call C.C.G.S. at 903-796 3081 or the Atlanta Public Library at 903-796-2112.
