Queen City battles Elysian Fields in football action
The Queen City Bulldogs were on the road last Friday night to face the Elysian Fields Yellow Jackets. Queen City entered the game with a loss in the previous week against DeKalb. Elysian Fields was defeated by Daingerfield.
Queen City opened the game on offense and quarterback Dylan Scott threw two consecutive passes to receiver T’Angelo Neal for gains of 10 and 11 yards.
The Bulldogs were forced to punt shortly after and the Elysian Fields’ offense marched down the field to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets forced a Queen City fumble moments later and Elysian Fields capitalized on the turnover with another quick first quarter score.
Queen City’s offense began to move the ball down the field on its next drive.
Beginning at their own 34-yard line, the Bulldogs moved the ball to Elysian Fields’ side of the field thanks in part by a 15-yard run by Scott.
Queen City was eventually forced to turn the ball over on downs.
Elysian Fields went on to score once more in the opening frame, expanding its lead to 20 points at the end of the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter with a four-yard touchdown and Queen City’s first drive of the second quarter resulted in a three-and-out.
Elysian Fields took possession on its own 24-yard line, and a defensive highlight for Queen City came when Neal stepped in front of a Yellow Jackets’ pass for an interception at midfield.
The Bulldogs would not capitalize on the turnover, however, and Elysian Fields went on to score an additional touchdown before the half.
By the end of the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 45 points after scoring touchdowns at the 9:43 and 8:33 mark, respectively.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Queen City defense intercepted its second pass of the game when defensive back Damir Rascoe stepped in front of a a pass to give Queen City possession at Elysian Fields’ 40-yard line.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the turnover and put points on the board. After runs for positive yardage and a facemark penalty, Scott found Rascoe for a 21-yard touchdown completion.
The game ended with a final score of Queen City 6 and Elysian Fields 51.
The Bulldogs are back at home this Friday night Oct. 18, as they take on the Daingerfield Tigers.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm at Smith-Wall Stadium.
