LEDC Update

Fall has arrived in Linden—somewhat at least. Temperatures might still be hot, but our downtown looks like a festive, harvest-themed wonderland thanks to the incredibly hard work and creativity of some fantastic volunteers.

We have a ton of events coming up to celebrate the oncoming of autumn as well. This Saturday will be our regular Second Saturday downtown shopping event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Our downtown businesses have been holding this monthly event for almost a year now and they are always a blast.

Coinciding with Second Saturday will be the twice yearly event known as Treasure Trails. Treasure Trails is a multi-city cooperative “trail” of garage sales along Texas Highway 11 that is taking place October 10, 11, & 12th. The trails stretch from Linden all the way to Sulphur Springs. So, if you plan to navigate the trail, Linden will be either your starting point or your ending point.

On October 19th, Linden will be having its annual T-Bone Walker Day. There will be a free tasting event downtown that will be featuring Linden’s local eateries from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Following that, a blues concert featuring Whitey Johnson will be held at Music City Texas Theater at 7:30 p.m. T-Bone Walker Day was created to honor Aaron “T-Bone” Walker as a native son of Linden and a quintessential blues musician of music history.

Trunk-or-Treat will be taking place downtown again this year at 6 p.m. on Halloween night as well.

Linden is staying busy to make sure that its community has plenty to do this month. These events are organized and overseen by community organizations like our Linden Area Chamber of Commerce and Linden Main Street, but a lot of credit is also due to local businesses as well. Our businesses function as sponsors and participants in many of the events that we get to enjoy all throughout the year.

The LEDC’s role in many of these events comes from its economic directive of tourism development.

The LEDC supports many festivals and events that take place in the city of Linden throughout the year as a means to spur additional tourism revenue for local businesses and cement Linden as a destination for travelers. This support can come in many forms ranging from financial sponsorships to functional & organizational support. Additionally, as the director of the LEDC, I try to always make myself available as a volunteer resource whenever there is any event taking place that benefits the city.

Expect to see even more events on the horizon as we enter the holiday season including Main Street’s annual Pop-Up Market event, the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas on the Square, and more. For a comprehensive calendar of local events, you can visit lindenmainstreet.org/calendar.
