T-Bone Walker will be honored at Music City Texas Theater

In celebration of Linden’s native son T-Bone Walker, Music City Texas Theater will be hosting a concert in his honor. The concert, named “T-Bone Walker Day” will be held on Oct. 19, and will feature blues artist Whitey Johnson. The event will be raising funds to contribute to the return of the T-Bone Walker Blues Festival to Linden.

Aaron Thibeaux “T-Bone” Walker was born on May 28, 1910, in Linden. While he was accomplished at playing many instruments, such as the banjo, violin, piano, mandolin, and even the ukulele, he is best known for his mastery of the guitar and is known worldwide for launching the electric guitar to center stage and in 2018, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 37 on its list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

The legendary guitarist, singer, and songwriter was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

“This concert, in celebration of T-Bone Walker, lays the groundwork to re-initiate a festival in honor of this national treasure,” Music City Texas Theater Executive Director David Hulme says. “The Blues Festival was established and presented in the summer of 2006 with the intent to bring people to Linden to bolster our economic development, keep blues alive, and introduce blues to a new generation.”

Music City Texas Theater, who is hosting and producing T-Bone Walker Day, is a non-profit theater which brings both local and nationally known musicians to Cass County. In 2018, blues artist, Whitey Johnson, treated event-goers to a wonderful concert at the theater. Johnson will return to the theater to treat concert-goers once again in honor of T-Bone Walker.

“Whitey Johnson was a favorite of the original Blues Fest and was very well received again last year,” Richard Bowden, Music City Texas Theater Board Member, and local music celebrity says, “Whitey has one of the most entertaining shows of anyone who has ever played the Blues Fest.”

Showtime starts at 7:30 on Oct. 19. Tickets can be purchased at the door, online at www.musiccity.org,or by calling Music City Texas Theater from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (903) 756-9934. All proceeds from this event will be used to return the T-Bone Walker Blues Festival to Linden.
