Linden-Kildare falls to DeKalb Bears in third contest

Linden-Kildare traveled to DeKalb last Friday night to take on the Bears.

The Tigers were down 25-0 at halftime and DeKalb went on to win the contest 57-14.

L-K received the ball first but turned the ball over to DeKalb at midfield on the first play from scrimmage.

The Bears made its way down to the redzone but a stout stand by the Tigers’ defense and a penalty forced a fourth down situation later in the drive.

DeKalb’s kicker nailed the 32-yard attempt and the Bears were up 3-0 with 6:41 left in the first quarter.

L-K’s next possession began at the 27 but on third-and-long the Tigers fumbled the ball and it was scooped up by the Bears and returned for a touchdown.

The PAT was good and DeKalb was up 10-0 with 5:47 left in the first frame.

Ladavion Johnson made his return from an arm injury and took the initial handoff close to midfield on the Tigers’ next drive.

Quarterback Deuce Schuler took a QB keeper for a few yards, but a penalty and an incomplete pass put the Tigers back in punt formation with 4:21 left in the first quarter.

The Bears took the ball from the 38 to the L-K 29 before Ashton? Harper sacked DeKalb’s QB for a loss.

The opening quarter ended with DeKalb facing third down.

In the second quarter the Tigers’ defense came up big and forced DeKalb to punt the ball away.

Johnson took the first handoff 10 yards but another fumble a few plays later by the Tigers was scooped up and the Bears scored another TD.

The PAT was good and DeKalb increased its lead to 17-0.

After a quick three-andout by the Tigers, DeKalb put the ball back across the goal line on its next drive.

The 2-point play was successful and the score was 25-0 with 5:58 left in the first half.

L-K began its next drive in good field position from the 41-yard line.

The drive started out with promise but ended with an interception at the 3:26 mark.

DeKalb failed to get into the endzone on the drive and the half ended with the Tigers down by 25 points.

The Bears opened the second half with the ball and drove 70 yards for another TD.

The PAT was no good but the Bears increased its lead to 31-0 with 5:46 left in the third quarter.

DeKalb scored once more after the Tigers failed to convert a fourth down on its drive, and although the PAT was no good DeKalb was up 37-0 with 3:17 left in the third stanza.

L-K finally got on the board when Johnson bolted for a long TD run. The 2-point conversion was good and the score was 37-8.

The Bears scored once more before the quarter ended and DeKalb took a 43-8 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth frame the Tigers went back to Johnson on its next drive and the elusive back scored again.

The PAT was no good and the score sat at 43-14.

DeKalb scored twice more before the game ended and pushed the final score to 57-14.

Johnson had a good game in his return as he racked up 152 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns.

The Tigers celebrate Homecoming this week against Hawkins.

The game is slated for 7:30 p.m. after the Homecoming festivities and crowning of Tiger royalty.
