LEDC Update
“Our greatest asset is our people.” That is and always will be my foremost belief regarding the city of Linden. I wanted to draft a concise encapsulation of that belief here because I have been blessed to see the undeniable proof of it in action over the past week.
To begin, the Saturday evening of August 24th saw the production of the Let Linden Shine Sponsor’s Gala take place at our local Music City Texas Theater.
This event served as the culmination of the efforts of dozens of local Lindenites to celebrate the successful funding of the project to light the Historic 1934 Linden Water Tower. If you were able to attend, I’m sure I saw you there and I just might have brought you your coffee from the Dark Horse coffee bar. (Sorry if I got your order wrong! It was my first night on the job!)
The whole Let Linden Shine project has been a pure testament to our citizens’ community mindedness and their willingness to invest in the future of our city.
The Gala served to thank our sponsors, but I wanted to make sure I utilized this forum to thank not only the sponsors, but also the volunteers that have worked so hard to make this project a success.
From working to facilitate and spread the word of this incredible project to organizing the amazing Gala that took place, each and every one of you have done your hometown proud!
In addition to the excitement with the lighting project, this past week held an entirely different excitement for Linden as well. On Thursday August 29th, our city was again visited by the folks with Open Hearts Children and Family Services. Over the course of the morning, they met with church leadership from multiple local churches and got to take a few facility tours of some of our school campuses guided by our wonderful superintendent.
At noon, they were featured as the speaker for our Linden Lion’s Club. From there, they went on to sit down with our law enforcement for a one-on-one meeting and had the opportunity for one last facility tour at our local nursing home Focused Care of Linden.
Over the course of Thursday’s itinerary, our people once again put our best foot forward by welcoming Open Hearts and taking part in meaningful and thoughtful dialogues with their representatives. Our Lion’s Club meeting was easily the most well attended meeting I have yet to witness as a member and I want to give a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who took the time to attend and organize the meeting.
The last thing I would say on the subject of our people is this: When our citizens participate and invest in our community, that is noticed by the world around us and it puts us on a path to future success.
If you are participating in any of our community groups, if you have a business in town that you work hard every day to run, or if you contribute to our city in any way—no matter how small, then you are making a tangible difference in the future of this city and I thank you for what you do.
