School Board votes on tax rate, budget
The Atlanta School Board convened Tuesday for public hearing regarding the 2019-2020 budget and 2019 tax rate among other agenda items.
Assistant superintendent of finance, Marilyn Cobb, presented the board with the district’s tax rate, budget, and detail of expenses as they relate to each of three funds. The proposed tax rate for 2019 is $1.16835. The board voted to approve.
Items of note include the state’s share for school funding has risen to 52% from 40% for 2020, and the county’s share is 29%. Enrollment for 2019-2020 is trending upwards and was projected at 1710 before school began. That number rose to 1795 as of the day of the meeting. Board member, Sydney Harrist, said of the data, “We are growing, and that’s a very good thing.”
The board voted to approve salary increases for teachers in June which are above the new state minimum and within the range of $1500-$5000 above base.
