LEDC Update

I’m penning this article at the tail end of a busy week in the middle of a busy month for the Linden Economic Development Corporations.

Our monthly board meeting was held on the 20 and we got a lot accomplished.

Our regularly scheduled board meeting is always held at noon on the third Tuesday of every month and our agendas are publically posted both on our front door and on the city website a minimum of 72 hours in advance of any of our board meetings—regularly scheduled or otherwise.

We’re preparing to launch a new program that will help Linden businesses market themselves more effectively across digital platforms.

A decisive marketing strategy is crucial for any business to succeed and I’m truly excited that we’ll have a framework in place soon to assist businesses with that facet of their strategic planning.

So, be on the lookout for more information regarding this fantastic development in the very near future.

Speaking of marketing, I took some time out of my week to do a little bit for two other very important projects.

Thursday morning, I participated in a radio interview for KPYN out of Atlanta to promote the upcoming Veterans’ Salute event.

The Veterans’ Salute is an event held annually here in Linden put on to help connect our veterans with local resources that are available to them.

The LEDC is a key sponsor for the Veterans’ Salute and I myself serve on the steering committee for the event.

This year, the event will be taking place on September 7, beginning with a free breakfast provided to veterans and their families at the Linden United Methodist Church fellowship hall starting at 8 a.m.

Following the breakfast, we’ll have live music by Relentless, a car show put on by Mustang Syndicate, and vendors including veteran organizations downtown on the square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We’re wanting to honor and serve as many veterans as we can while connecting them with organizations that can continue to help them all year round.

If you or anyone you know in the area is a veteran, we want to encourage that you come out and let them know that we want them there on September 7, to enjoy this event.

I also had the opportunity to give a presentation regarding Open Hearts Children & Family Services at our weekly Lion’s Club meeting.

You may recall that Open Hearts is the group that I discussed in my last update that is looking at installing a residential treatment facility for foster children in Linden.

Needless to say, the excitement regarding this prospective development hasn’t dwindled in the slightest since last I wrote about them.

Their executive director will be speaking to our Lion’s Club on Thursday, August 29, at noon at the County Seat Café.

We’re expecting a stellar turnout for this Lion’s Club meeting and I would encourage any of you who might be interested in learning more about their organization to attend Lion’s Club on the 29.

We’re also all hands on deck in assisting with the well-known Let Linden Shine project to light the historic water tower.

If you don’t know already, the first official lighting of the tower will take place on September 14, in conjunction with our monthly Second Saturday local shopping event.

Additionally, Linden Main Street will be hosting a downtown block party that night to celebrate the lighting.

So, come out, celebrate a successful project with all of us, and see how fantastic the tower looks while enjoying great music and shopping at some of our fantastic businesses.
