Elizabeth Bickham, a student at Morris Upchurch Middle School, became the first archer from this area to compete in the NASP IBO/3D World Championship last month.
She travelled to Nashville, Tenn., on July 26 and placed 22nd out of 193 archers from around the world by shooting a score of 268 out of 300 points.
Bickham ranked 200 out of 750 for girls in 4th-12th grades. She was the second place archer from the state of Texas.
The IBO/3D contest consists of six foam animal targets placed at a distance of 10-15 meters. Archers shoot at each target five times.
Bickham prepared for this contest on her own time by working at Avinger School and at Deadhead Archery in Queen City.
She is looking forward to continuing the IBO/3D tradition as a sixth grader next year, when she will move into the middle school division of the competition.
