Kennedy selected as Texas DECA District 6 President
Shelby Kennedy was selected as the Texas DECA District 6 student president for 2018-2019.
After submitting a resume and essay, Kennedy scored a near-perfect score on the District officer’s candidate test which included questions on DECA facts and history, parliamentarian procedure, and leadership.
She then advanced to the final round of candidacy which consisted of an interview with the DECA District 6 director and the current student president.
As District president, Kennedy will lead and represent the 13 high school chapters that comprise District 6.
She will ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the District and will develop and implement a consistent media strategy that supports Texas DECA’s goals through social media and video outlets. Kennedy will also design initiatives to support statewide membership development and community service.
District officers are required to plan and attend several conferences throughout their tenure including the District Leadership Conference in the fall. This event is planned and executed entirely by the District officers where they equip local chapter officers with resources and information to help them elevate their own chapters. She will also assist in a variety of roles at the District and State competitions.
Additionally, Kennedy will attend an all-expense paid trip to Texas DECA’s Leadership Summit in New Braunfels this summer. She also has the opportunity to attend DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in April and DECA’s Ultimate Power Trip in Baltimore, Maryland, in November.
