Atlanta Education Foundation to host “Blue Jeans & Bling”

The Atlanta Education Foundation (AEF) will host the sixth annual Blue Jeans & Bling Saturday, Feb. 24. The soiree will be at 6:30 p.m. at a new venue, “a big blue building,” which is about a mile off Hwy 59 North, 1037 Farm-to-Market 2327 in Springdale. The Jason Peters Family has generously provided the venue.
Speaking of charitable contributions, some of the treasures that will be on sale are a custom utility trailer built by the Agriculture Department of Atlanta Independent School District (AISD), a fire pit, “Kids Day Out” at Local Creations, a ride on an Atlanta Fire Department fire truck, gift certificates to local restaurants, “beauty baskets” from local salons, a designer purse, tickets to a performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” ballet at The Perot Theatre in Texarkana, the opportunity to be “Principal for a Day” at Atlanta Primary School and classes for couples in cooking and grilling taught by a chef at the Kitchenette inside ACE Price Hardware.
Some of the highly prized donations are tickets to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on their Soul2Soul world tour and a very special offering will be a trip to New York City to see Disney’s “Frozen,” which includes hotel and round-trip airfare.
The foundation has already started the excitement with two ongoing raffles. Tickets are on sale through Friday, Feb. 23, for a custom-made Ultimate Rabbit Fan quilt depicting 17 Rabbit t-shirt graphics from the past. The coverlet measures 86” x 90” and bears the Blue Jeans & Bling and AEF logos on the back. Tickets for the blanket are $10 each or six for $50
The second raffle running concurrently is for a Stoeger 12-gauge shotgun. Raffle tickets for the gun are $25 each or six for $100.
The results of both raffles will be revealed at the party, but the winners do not have to be present to claim their prizes.
The AEF has dropped the price for admission this year to $50 per person, which includes a catered dinner.
Prior to the dinner, there will be a Pre-Party Viewing Event at 5:30 p.m. For an extra $25, you may view the items, which will be auctioned, enter into a special raffle and enjoy custom cocktails, a glass of wine or sample hors d’oeuvres.
The event is a fundraiser to support teacher grants and scholarships. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the AEF has been able to distribute in excess of $100,000 to fund deserving programs throughout the AISD.
In addition to the teacher grants, the foundation hosts the annual “Walk the Red Carpet” for the top 10 percent of the graduating class of Atlanta High School. Also in partnership with the Atlanta Alumni Association, the AEF sponsors the Outstanding Alumni Awards, which are presented to deserving Rabbit alums at a home game each fall.
Dress for Blue Jeans & Bling is casual with a touch of flash. Wear your best jeans, boots and glitz and get ready for an exciting evening, which will include music by the Matt Boyd Band and catering by Shep’s Bullseye BBQ. In addition, a live auction will be hosted by professional auctioneer Shelby Crump, who always keeps things moving.
Tickets for the festivities are $50 each and are tax deductible. They can be purchased from any member of the AEF Board of Directors, or at the AISD Administration office. For more information, or make a donation to the foundation, call 903-796-4194.
