William Kenneth “Bill” Goodson, Jr., 84, of Longview, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview.
He was born Aug. 18, 1933, in Texarkana, to William Kenneth Goodson Sr. and Christine Crain Goodson. He began his career as a choir director and public school music teacher in Atlanta Independent School District. He also taught choir at Texas High School in Texarkana. He began his career as a band director at Paul Pewitt Consolidated Independent School District in 1960. He began a 16-year tenure as the band director at Daingerfield High School in 1964. After Daingerfield, he became the band director at Greenville High School, where he later retired. After the death of his wife, Beverly in 1990, he returned to teaching and taught in numerous schools over the next 16 years. He was also active as a clinician and adjudicator in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
He is survived by his son, Kenny Goodson and wife Ann of Hughes Springs; sister, Barbara Johnson of Lawton, Okla.; granddaughter, Michele Owen and husband Anthony of Bryant, Ark.; two great-grandsons Will and Harper Owen of Bryant, Ark.; a special friend, Susie Wilkins; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 10, at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Daingerfield under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.

Orville Brown, 89, of Atlanta, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, in a local nursing home.
He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Fond Du Lac, Wis., to Henry and Rosetta Brown. He was the retired owner of Brown’s Appliance, a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed spending time reading, watching westerns and tinkering.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Brown; son, Jimmy Brown; two brothers, Rueben Brown and Donald Brown; and a sister, Dorothy Reitz.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra Bylander and husband Arvid of Turtle Lake, Wis.; son, Dennis Brown; three brothers, Henry Brown, Fred Brown and Franklin Brown all of Fond Du Lac; a sister, Lois Jewson of Fond Du Lac; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bro. Gene Parker officiating.

Fred R. Denmon, age 84, of Atlanta, formerly of Sarepta, La., passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, in Texarkana.
He was born on May 1, 1933, to R. B. and Mittie Dean Denmon, in Sarepta. He was a former resident of Sarepta, but had made his home in Atlanta the past 35 years. He was a faithful member of the Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, church clerk and choir director. He was a retired employee of International Paper Company in Springhill, La., and Atlanta, with 41 years of service. He served on the Webster Parish School Board and on the Board of Directors of Carter Federal Credit Union. He was an announcer for the Sarepta Hornet High School football team for many years and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and also loved by many friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Denmon in 2007; his parents; a sister, Nelda Lee; brothers, Tom, William "Buddy", Ken and Don.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dixie Frazier Denmon of Atlanta; daughter, Sheri Denmon, of Atlanta; grandchildren, Jeremy Moore and wife Morgan of Ruston, La.; Jamie Palmer and husband Shane of Shreveport, La.; Kamie Watson of Springhill; Ronnie Denmon, Amanda Denmon and Shawna Denmon, all of Cummings, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Brock, Jolie, Journie, Rubie, Hartlie and Audrie; sister, Jan Brewton of Shongaloo, La.; special sister-in-law, Barbara Dean of Choctaw, Okla.; special nephew (like a son), Mike Denmon of Springhill; many cousins and extended family members; Pap Paw's baby, The Beagle; special friends, Jerry and Sue Clements and Andra and Brook Wisdom.
Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill.
Funeral services for were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church in Sarepta with the Rev. Tim Everett, the Rev. Todd Pickard and the Rev. Charles Woolley officiating. Interment followed at the Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Springhill.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Moore, Mike Denmon, Shane Palmer, Bo Allen, Robert Denmon and Jerry Moore. Honorary pallbearers were L. E. Waggoner, Tommy Boswell, Jerry Clements, Bobby Allen, Gene White, Roy Spence, Calvin Craig and Roger Matlock.
