King of Ragtime honored with new film

In further honoring East Texas’ father of ragtime during worldwide Scott Joplin Centennial Celebrations 2017, The Regional Music Heritage Center (RMHC) and Scott Joplin Support Group (SJSG) present the premier screenings of the feature video ‘Scott Joplin Hometown Hero Texarkana, USA. 
Filmed locally Linden, Texas, Texarkana, Texas and Texarkana, AR, the one-hour piece speaks of the early life of the acclaimed King of Ragtime in both cities. 
Family members and historians offer insight into the intimate and cultural roots of the Joplin family and the young prodigy.
Make-up was provided by Mary Kay Cosmetic Consultant Mary Love of Linden who is a descendent of Florence Givens Joplin, the mother of Scott Joplin, who also appears in the video and Carolyn Turner-Gibson in Texarkana. 
Stan Shavers advised on lighting, Thomas Mallette aided as grip, and John Dee Mullins assisted as the IT assistant. 
Executive Director of RMHC and Collins-Miles and SJSG Director are co-producers of the video project. 
There will be several screenings of the film at different locations and dates; Pleasant Hill Center at 2700 FM 1399 Linden, Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 18, Lindsey Railroad Museum’s Old Town Saloon 202 E. Broad St. Texarkana, AR at 7 p.m. on Friday Nov. 24, Museum of Regional History on the corner of Pine St. and Stateline Ave. Texarkana, Texas at 1 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 25. 
Tickets may be purchased daily at each event location at the door the day of the events and reservations are advised due to limited seating. 
Refreshments will be provide at the Pleasant Hill Center and the Lindsey Railroad Museum after the screenings. 
All tickets will be entered in the ‘Great Music Train Raffle’ sponsored by AMTRAK for two roundtrip tickets from Texarkana to St. Louis,MO on the Texas Eagle Line. 
Raffle tickets are also sold separately and available at all event locations and on the Regional Music Heritage Center website 
The winner will be drawn on Monday, Nov. 27 at the Lindsey Railroad Museum.
Both the Regional Music Heritage Center and the Scott Joplin Support Group are charitable organizations. All ticket sales will go towards production costs and the filming of a part II of this video, which will be shown during the Scott Joplin International Music Festival in 2018. The re-edited versions of these videos will be available to all schools and non-profit organizations for educational and public awareness purposes.
