New inductees honored at Atlanta vs. Gladewater football game
The Atlanta Education Foundation (AEF) and the Atlanta High School Alumni Association venerated three Atlanta High School (AHS) graduates as Distinguished Alumni and presented one Distinguished Service Award prior to the football game Friday, Oct. 27.
New inductees to the “AHS Hall of Fame” are Congressman Max Sandlin, Class of 1971; Carol Ann Clements, Class of 1993; and Robert Andrew “Drew” Stubbs, Class of 2003; and Gus Schuhmann, 46-year “alum” of Atlanta schools, who received the Distinguished Service Award.
Mayor Travis Ransom presented proclamations to the honorees for their lifelong accomplishments at a reception given in their honor at the Atlanta Independent School District Building earlier in the afternoon.
President of the Alumni Association Joel Steger, a 2015 AHS Distinguished Alum, welcomed the visitors and introduced Dr. Lanny Giesler of the AEF Board of Directors. Giesler expressed the many reasons each honoree was singled out. This is the sixth year for this remarkable tribute.
Numerous family members gathered with the four newly named “Hall of Famers” at the football game, where the Rabbits and the Big Bad Band from Rabbitland all put on a great show for the crowd.
