Daughters members attend council

Three members of Mark Epperson Chapter United States Daughters of 1812 attended the 2020 Texas State Council in Temple recently. Chapter Registrar Nancy Belford, Librarian Tammie Blackburn, and President Kay Stephens were voting delegates. At the annual meeting, Tammie Blackburn was elected Texas State Curator and Kay Stephens was elected Texas State Librarian. Honorary Texas State President and current Librarian National Ora Jane Johnson, whose hometown is Atlanta, Texas, served as Texas State Parliamentarian. Mark Epperson Chapter was presented numerous certificates of award, including first place in publicity. There was never a time we got into the car, as did many of you, when moms wouldn’t take over the road trip and make up fun games, great expressions, feed us treats, keep our minds off “are we there yet”, be entertaining and teach us all fun sayings, poems, songs and southern expressions. That was pretty much standard operating procedure as we learned and grew up riding and traveling to the grandmothers, aunts and uncles or maybe Wimberly for that once in a lifetime dude ranch week, or Colorado or Yellowstone. The long trips required pillows and coloring books!

Balancing school, extra-curricular activities, family, and friends, compounded by the changes going on within themselves can often leave them stressed and anxious. Add to all of this, pressures from school mates to fit into a box they may otherwise not fit and one may find their otherwise sweet kid lashing out or failing to cope with everything in a healthy manner.
