Write-in candidate announces bid for U.S. Congress

Conservative businessman and ministry leader, Tracy Jones, of Texarkana, Tex. announced Monday his candidacy for U.S. Congress in Texas’ congressional district 4 (CD 4). Jones is a native of the district and will run for congress as a “qualified, unaffiliated, write-in candidate.”

Jones cited alarm over the selection process by the Congressional District Executive Committee (CDEC) which is comprised of Republican precinct and county chairs throughout CD 4 who chose to appoint a candidate from another district to replace former U.S. Congressman John Ratcliffe on November’s ballot.

“Nobody will care better for this district than someone who was born and raised here”, Jones said, “It’s time for a voice from among the people to represent the people.”

Pat Fallon, a state senator who resides outside of CD 4, was appointed Aug. 8 to replace Ratcliffe. Fallon received 82 votes out of 145 cast. Former Ratcliffe staffer Jason Ross, received 34 votes and Atlanta Mayor Travis Ransom, received 16 votes.

“I was born in Mt. Pleasant and raised in Dalby Springs and they would be devastated by the Marvin Nichols Reservoir. Titus County would be devastated. Just the idea that so much mitigation land would be seized through eminent domain seems unconscionable to me”, Jones said.

According to Jones, he is a prolife conservative who supports religious liberty, Constitutional freedoms and is an avid supporter of the First and Second amendments.  Limited government, political term limits on all elected officials and lower taxes are also part of his platform.

A ministry leader at Know Your Worth Ministries and the founder of Texarkana United, Jones has worked with over 50 local churches and business owners across the city to create several of the city’s largest events including 2018’s Turn Up the Lights and Gospel Fest. Other events include A Twin City Christmas and Freedom Fest.

“These events have brought unity and togetherness across racial divides”, Jones said, “We have a vision for unity in our nation, regardless of race or religious belief. We want to build bridges to build our nation.”

Jones has also cited concerns about government overreach amid the COVID-19 pandemic when the state implemented restrictions on businesses and churches.

He along with his wife, Shanda, of 10 years have six daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter on the way and attend Church on the Rock in Texarkana, Tex.
