Weekend storm causes damage

On Saturday night, a storm swept through Cass County causing some minor damage. Fallen limbs and debris littered about. However, no major damage has been reported in Linden. The most significant damage was two trees blown over onto the train tracks that run through Atlanta.

This resulted in a train possibly hitting both and being forced to stop due to the blockage.

It was reported by an employee that the train, about 13,000 feet long, was going approximately 25 miles per hour when it struck the trees. Traffic was delayed at several crossings.

This same storm system was responsible for heavy rain, hail, and tornadoes in Louisiana.

Significant damage was reported in the state as the Governor declared a state of emergency.

Power outages and major damage have been reported in areas of the state and the Louisiana Urban Search and Rescue team has been dispatched to aid in search and rescue efforts.
