Water tower is complete

The skyline of downtown Linden would not be the same without its beautiful and historic water tower. The tower, built in 1934 after a fire nearly destroyed the now also historic courthouse, was slated to be demolished in 2015. However, Linden Heritage Foundation, the citizens of Linden, and Don Henley stepped in to save the water tower. After a study was done to assess the tower’s structural integrity, it was found that the tower had weathered ravages of time extremely well and, with some minor repairs, it could be fully restored.

On Sept. 15 of last year, in celebration of the historic towers saving, those in attendance of Second Saturday were treated to something spectacular. As the sun’s light faded and gave way to the night sky, Longview Lighting gave Linden a preview of the regal beauty of the 1934 water tower. Today, the restoration efforts are complete. Indeed the tower is even usable if need be. Those in charge of lighting up the tower have been trained in how to do so. Those who call Linden home and those who are just traveling through or visiting should look up towards downtown when the dark has claimed the day and rejoice. The historic tower stands as a tribute to perseverance, community, and the unwavering spirit of a small town.
