VanDeaver to judge Tiger Takeover
If you’ve ever watched a baking show competition, then you know how hard the contestant bakers strive for perfection in taste and presentation.
Linden-Kildare High School students in Chef Ann Knopp’s Culinary Arts class will take part in a pilot competition called “Tiger Takeover” with a “knockout round” held on Oct. 29.
The finalists will compete in the finale on Nov. 4, with special guest judge State Rep. Gary VanDeaver in attendance of this inaugural event.
Texas High Menu Development Specialist Matt Murr will also be present.
The competition overview is that students will choose 1-of-3 available proteins that are USDA ingredients provided for K-12 schools that can be used in a variety of ways to create recipes. The ingredients are pulled pork, diced chicken and fajita chicken.
Students are allowed to choose the remaining ingredients to customize their dish from the ingredients on the 25-26 purchasing bid.
Students are to create a dish that can be made in a school cafeteria with a focus on taste, presentation and ease of recipe production in a school cafeteria setting.
The champion will have their recipe added to the school’s menu to be offered to the entire student body, and the student will get to work with the cafeteria staff to prepare their dish.
