Trail Grinder run benefiting Siderosis research

The third annual Trail Grinder run benefiting research for a cure for Superficial Siderosis drew runners from a wide area Saturday to the trail head of Atlanta’s Sportsplex Park.

Promoted and sponsored by Tanya and Greg Beers of Coffe Creama special coffee shop in Atlanta, the event seeks to raise awareness of the rare neurological disease Superficial Siderosis.

The activity called a trail grinder event combines the idea of grinding of coffee with the hard work of running of a trail through the woods. Runners chose to do either a 5K, 10K or 30K distance.

The purpose is to raise awareness of the disease. This will drive research, Tanya Beers said. A non-profit Siderosis alliance is dedicated to funding research, improving patient’s quality of life and providing education and support.

Atlanta may not have mountains, but it has trails, the organizers said. They are willing to sponsor and prepare a trail run for a good medical cause.

“We’ll do it again,” Tanya Beers said this week.. “We’ll do it bigger and better next time.”
