Texas sales tax holiday is Aug. 9-11

Those who hope for a deal on school supplies, gym shoes or new school clothes for the kids need look no further, as Texas Tax holiday weekend is set for Aug. 9-11. The holiday will begin Friday, Aug. 9 and last throughout the weekend, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. “The law exempts sales tax on qualified items, such as clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks, priced below $100,” Hegar stated in a news release. This saves shoppers about $8 per every $100 they spend, Hegar added. “As a father of three, I know how these expenses can add up,” Hegar said. A list of apparel and school supplies that may be purchased tax-free are listed on the comptroller’s website, TexasTaxHoliday.org. Hegar estimates Texas shoppers will save an estimated $102.2 million in state and local sales taxes during this year’s tax holiday, which has been an annual event since 1999.
