Texas History Minute
Congressman Nathaniel Moran will be uncontested in his effort to continue serving East Texas as the Congressional Representative from the First District of Texas. No other candidates filed to run for Congressional District 1 as of the filing deadline for the March 5, 2024, Primary Election — either on the Republican or Democratic side.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve East Texans in Washington, DC, for another term,” Moran said. “Even though I don’t have an opponent, this is no time to rest. I will continue traveling across the District, hearing from voters, and transparently communicating about the work we are doing on their behalf in DC,” he continued.
In his first term in office, Moran has focused on issues important to East Texans, including strengthening border security, supporting law enforcement, constraining spending, and rolling back the overreach of the federal government and the liberal policies of the Biden Administration. He has also been vocal in his support for Israel, using his committee positions on Foreign Affairs and Education and Workforce to condemn antisemitism evident in organizations ranging from the United Nations to college campuses.
So far, Moran has introduced 14 separate pieces of legislation, starting with the Border Security Investment Act and continuing through to his most recent filing, the No Technology for Terror Act. In between, he has filed bills dealing with election integrity, sanctions for those involved in the fentanyl trade, and funding recruiting and retention of local law enforcement officers. He has also focused on solving challenges unique to the First Congressional District through bills like his Rural Weather Monitoring Systems Act, which will help improve rural weather monitoring systems so meteorologists have the information they need to better predict when East Texas will experience severe weather.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished in our first year in office,” Moran said. “Since I am running uncontested, I look forward to another term in Congress delivering strong, conservative results for my friends and neighbors and boldly speaking on behalf of hundreds of East Texans as we work together to change the course of this great Republic,” he concluded. Additional Background on Congressman Moran The First District of Texas is comprised of roughly 776,000 East Texans across 17 counties.
