Texas Historical Marker Ceremony
St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery, Leek Creek, Bivins #2 will hold an Official Texas Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Leek Creek, Bivins #2, Cass County, TX (154 CR 4344, Bivins, TX 75555) adjacent to the St.Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
Speakers and attendees for the ceremony will include state and local historical commission personnel as well as University affiliates, present and past community members and friends as well as the chairperson of the Leek Creek St.Paul Cemetery Historical Designation Committee.
A subject qualifies for a marker if two basic criteria are met: historical significance and age. Historical significance is established by reviewing its role and importance in local history. Official Texas Marker Policies are outlined in the Official Texas Historical Marker Procedures, History Programs Division, Texas Historical Commission, 512-4635853 or www.thc.texas.gov.
“It is vital that we do not forget our past as we move forward. Not only will the Texas Historical Marker provide awareness in the community of our fascinating history as a repository for the graves of pioneering slaves who founded a self-sufficient community well over a hundred years ago but serve as a beacon of stability to those who come after.”
