Swisher offers a look back and a look forward
It has been quite some year for those living in Linden. When Linden City Manager Bob Swisher looks back at 2019 there are several things the residents of Linden should be proud of. When peering back seven stuck out the most to Swisher:
1) Opening the Narcotics Anonymous meeting house, giving them a permanent location to meet.
2) General Land Grant Office two-million-dollar grant to repair drainage, bridges/culverts, and park.
3) Building 4 new houses in the HOMES program
4) Bringing a Scout Troop back in Texas
5) Getting the old Hospital reused for a functional purpose, Open Hearts Foster care facility.
6) Moving as far as we have on the reuse of the MILSTEP building (300 S Main, the old Piggly Wiggly) soon to hopefully be a gym.
7 ) Lighting then the total restoration of the 1934 Water tower
Moving on to the year 2020 when Swisher was asked about a theme for 2020, it would have to be, “Building a future for all Lindenites.” Keeping along with that vision there are several things Swisher would like to see accomplished this year, among them includes “bringing aboard the Gym, working on Child Care facility, start the USDA water renovation, and finalize the GLO grant planning,” says Swisher, which will “improve life for all Linden residents.”
Swisher would like to team up with city residents this year with the hope of continuing to make Linden great. One way Swisher believes that he will accomplish that, is to take the complaint of the area residents. “Complaints are looked at, recommendations with validity, and a plan of action is loved!” Swisher also recommends volunteering. “Join a local organization (Main Street, Chamber of Commerce, Linden Pride, Linden Youth Athletic Association, Boy Scouts).
One of Swisher’s personal goal this year is to “spend more time with my lovely wife, sometimes I let this job eat me up,” says Swisher.
