‘Friends’, books and a quilt!

It’s all about ...

Yes indeed, it’s spring and time again! “For what?” You might ask. For many of us it’s time to get that garden planted. Thankfully mine is already in…in fact strawberries and asparagus are gracing the table almost every night! However, spring is also time to purge the Atlanta Public Library of a multitude of books freeing up space for new editions.

Who’s there to help get rid of great reading material but their trusty “Friends”. We, the Friends of the Atlanta Public Library, set up an incredible book sale where you can come and spend as much time as you’d like, selecting as many books as you want, for a donation as you leave the building.

The library is constantly purging books during each and every year. We, as “Friends” are fortunate enough to help them get rid of the volumes. There are books signed by authors in the mix, large numbers of children’s books, large print and religious offerings, history like World War volumes, old books and current books. If you’re looking for something in particular, chances are, with just a little bit of digging you will probably find it. A truly fun treasure hunt of hard back and paperback books for all ages. The kids especially have a ball sorting through fun reading material.

Remember, there is no cost to come in and browse and no limits on what you can take. Just make a donation to the Friends of the Library as you go out the door. All donations go to the library and are utilized for everything needed, (like our new lighted sign) whether it’s for the kids or various functions during the year.

The sale starts April 18th through the 22nd. Daily hours are 10am – 6 pm with final day Saturday only 10am – 2pm. Where: Mattie Lanier Richey Center, Sportsplex Dr, 703 Holly Street, Atlanta, Texas. (only “Friends” can come on Monday, the 17th, a day earlier; and VENDORS or RESELLERS can’t come until Saturday, the 22nd.) However, the public can come on Monday, join as a “Friend” and go shopping!

Please plan to come and spend minutes or a couple of hours with us checking out the volumes of volumes! Don’t worry that the best will already be gone. We literally have thousands! Please come and give us a look and open your heart and wallet for the Atlanta Public Library and “Friends”. We can’t wait to see you and discover the best kept secret with tons of books. And, we’d love to see you become one of us, A FRIEND! (An annual $5 fee for a single member, $10 for family and $25 for a business.) Please come and visit!

At the book sale and before we forget, it’s also time to get your tickets for the quilt raffle. Our “Nimble Thimbles” have made and donated a quilt. The quilt will be on display at the book sale and tickets can be purchased at the door. 6 tickets are only $5.00. For a handmade quilt that’s pretty inexpensive! Plus, that money also goes into the Friends pot for the library. The drawing for the quilt will be at the Chocolate party which will be at the library on June 15th.

PS: A giant THANK YOU to FLINT Furniture as they are stepping up with time and truck to move books this year for the Library and Friends. Great people make a great community!
