SummerFest canceled, fireworks still scheduled
Nothing lights up the night sky like a good fireworks display.
The City of Atlanta/Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce has put on a solid show each year during its SummerFest celebration which takes place on the Saturday before the Fourth of July.
The event brought people near and far to our fair town where revelers celebrated with live music, food vendors, kid activities and the highly anticipated fireworks show.
Unfortunately, SummerFest has been canceled this year but the fireworks show hosted by The City of Atlanta will still take place.
The fireworks show will commence around 9 p.m. on Sat. June 28 from a new launch site location.
Check out the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for a map of the new site located at a city-owned property near the Atlanta Baseball and Softball Sportsplex.
The show will feature fireworks at approximately 400 to 600 feet high, The City will provide bathroom access only at the Sportsplex and the Atlanta Baseball and Softball Associations will be running the concession stand at the Sportsplex which supports both leagues.
Residents within a one-mile radius of the launch site should expect intense noise during the 15-minute show and an increase in traffic throughout the evening. Residents are advised to plan ahead and safely secure their pets for the evening.
The City is asking that onlookers refrain from illegally parking or littering at any point in the evening and to be respectful of the homes, businesses and private properties in the viewing area.
They also posted that those who wish to view the show should find an area with no immediate view obstructions such as a line of tall trees or other structures that may hinder visibility.
For any questions concerning the event please contact Atlanta City Hall at 903-796-2192 or miranda.johnson@atlantatexas.org.
