SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Temptations come to everyone! Tempted to buy what we do not need! Tempted to desire what we cannot have!
Tempted to acquire what we cannot afford! While being tempted is no sin, entertaining temptation is a sin. Coveting and lust are such sins. Pornography and much entertainment thrive on a person’s delight in being tempted.
“Each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death” (James 1:14-15).
The Bible teaches us to pray, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).
The first step in repentance is to want to be clean, inside and out. “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin,” and the second is to trust God’s promise, “Wash me and I will be whiter than snow” (v.2,7).
He fulfills this promise through Jesus Christ: “The blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin? ( 1 John 1:7). To trust Him for a clean heart is also a trust in Him for a “right spirit,” a spirit that loathes sin. Sunday service at Redeemer Lutheran Church is at 8:00 a.m.
