Sheriff Rowe celebrates 40th year in law enforcement

Our Cass County Sheriff has had a career in law enforcement spanning more than 40 years. Larry Rowe has been sheriff of Cass County going on eight years and plans to run again next November.

“I became a Texas Game Warden in 1980,” Rowe said. “I retired and ran for sheriff in 2012 and began official duties as sheriff of Cass County on January 1, 2013.”

“I have a total of 40 years and six months in law enforcement.”

Rowe said he started his career as a lawman in 1978, working as a deputy in neighboring Smith County. He moved from Lindale to Cass County in 1986, while working as a game warden. Rowe said his favorite part of serving Cass County as sheriff is the kind, helpful citizens.

“There are so many supportive people here,” Rowe said. “They help by volunteering as many ways as possible to keep our county a great place to live.”

Although Rowe does not believe the county has the tax base to support what the residents both need and deserve, he said having a proactive department is one of the greatest impacts his office has had on the county.

“We all do a great job with what we have,” Rowe said.

“We’ve got four full time investigators; around the clock patrol and always work handin-hand with our local police departments, state and federal agencies,” he added.

If given the chance, Rowe said he would do it all over again and looks forward to running for another four years.

“I would love to see our county continue to grow, with new businesses, and continue to move forward with some of the latest law enforcement tools to serve our residents,” Rowe said. Some tools he would like to see implemented would be a designated narcotics interdiction and license plate readers.

Rowe has been happily married to Teena Rowe for 38 years, and they have three daughters; Michelle, Samantha and Shelby.

The Rowes are excited about the upcoming addition of a fourth grandchild to their growing tribe.
