Texas sales tax revenue was up 4.3 percent this July than in July of last year, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. The state saw a total of $2.86 billion in revenue for July, 2019. “State sales tax revenue growth in July was moderate, with services and restaurant sectors leading the growth,” Hegar said. Construction, wholesale, and retail sectors also grew modestly this year, but receipts from oil- and gasminig sector remained about the same as last year. Total revenue for the summer months, ending in July 2019, was up 5.6 percent compared to last summer’s, as well. “Sales tax is the largest source of state funding for the state budget, accounting for 57 percent of all tax collections,” Hegar said.
