Safety tips for Christmas Parade

The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 2nd at 5:30pm. Parade organizers are excited for this event as it kicks off the Christmas season. Here are some safety tips that will help make the event a jolly one.

Be aware of your surroundings. The parade will include cars, trucks, motorcycles, bikes, and horses. All participants are traveling at a slow speed, but it is still difficult to see.

Stay out of the parade route. Many floats and big trucks cannot stop quickly. The parade route must stay clear of pedestrians so traffic can move safely. Candy will be thrown from the side of each vehicle. Don’t worry…you will get plenty of treats!

Keep children close to you. We love our little ones, but they are hard to see at night. There will be animals in this parade as well as moving vehicles. Make sure your kids are always in sight.

Drivers be courteous of the vehicle in front of you. There will be lots of distractions, but drivers must always pay attention to the parade route.

All horses must have proof of Coggins’ test upon parade registration.

No Parking on East St or Hiram St (Parade Route). Big Trucks must fit down narrow streets so parking is restricted to prevent damage or tragedy.

Registration Deadline is November 28th at 4 p.m.

Everyone involved is a volunteer and has put a lot of time and effort into making your experience merry and bright.

Parade Facts:

Registered participants will be given a confirmation email, map and line up number the week of the parade.

The Atlanta Christmas Parade is one of a few that throws candy. Because of this, event insurance has increased. Thank you to TEXAR Federal Credit Union for sponsoring this event and taking on this expense.

This year ONLY candy will be thrown from vehicles. Items such as cups, frisbees and toys are not allowed as they can get caught in the wind causing danger to others.

Law enforcement has increased for crowd control. Anyone NOT registered to participate in the parade will be asked to leave.

Parking will be closed at 2pm on East Street and Hiram. Any vehicle left after this time will be towed. This is to ensure good visibility for parade spectators and prevent damage to parked vehicles.

Let’s keep this incredible event safe and fun for everyone.
