Retired teachers welcome Chris Paddie

The Eastern Cass County School Retirees Association, a local unit of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, will host Rep. Chris Paddie in Queen City on September 10.

The state congressman’s upcoming address to retired teachers will likely center on the passage of SB 12 which was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 9. The bill purportedly fixes the teacher pension fund by increasing state contributions while giving retirees a one-time additional check. Rising healthcare insurance costs for retirees and additional legislative actions will be included in the discussion.

His return to the county will be on the heels of his last visit. The Atlanta Lions club invited Paddie to speak in July at which time he discussed, in detail, the passage and impact of HB 3 and SB 2 regarding school finance reform and property tax reform, respectively. Moreover, he underscored the importance of redistricting efforts that are currently underway.

The event will take place in the Family Life building of the Queen City First United Methodist church at the corner of Marietta and Fifth St at 10:30 am. A social will begin at 10:00 am. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.
