Retired teachers celebrate black history
The Eastern Cass County School Retirees Association met Tuesday morning, Feb. 10th, at Queen City First Methodist Church in celebration of black history month. Atlanta Middle School Principal, Colby Boyce, and Clifton Dickerson, originally of Atlanta, were guests at the event.
Boyce attended Atlanta and Queen City High Schools and performed two songs of praise for the meeting and was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
Dickerson is a graduate of Atlanta High School, Class of 1987. He spoke to the group to convey the impact his teachers had on him as a boy, his appreciation, and the importance of their legacy.
Dickerson is currently a platform director for a group of car dealerships in Arkansas and attributes his success and his ability to love and speak to all people regardless of color to his teachers.
“I thank my teachers, my aunt, everybody that played an important part in my life. I am your legacy. Me and the thousands of other kids that you’ve touched, we are your legacy.”
The Eastern Cass County School Retirees Association announced that it is teaming with Wadley Scan to provide members of the community with an accessible and affordable screening for risk of stroke, heart disease, and peripheral arterial disease. The screenings take 10 minutes and the report is available immediately. On Monday, Mar. 9, screenings will be conducted in front of Queen City First Baptist Church on Marietta St. Screenings done through ECCSRA are only $39.95.
The ECCSRA meets monthly for fellowship and to stay informed of issues and legislation that affect the Teachers Retirement System in Texas. The association’s next meeting is scheduled for Mar. 10th.
