Readers’ Choice Best People and Places is over

Readers’ Choice Best People and Places is over for 2024. The contest ended on August 9, at 10:00 p.m. Now the counting starts. When we are finished counting we will first go to area businesses and let them know they won. Since there are hundreds of categories in 2024 it takes time to get out to the winners.

Winners will have the opportunity to put a thank you ad in the paper. This serves three purposes. First, it lets the community know that you care about those who voted for them. Second, it is a great time to connect with future customers in this highly-read section. Lastly, the ad money we receive helps with the ongoing cost of keeping the readers’ choice contest going every year and the general health of your local newspaper.

The Journal-Sun would like to thank all the participants this year. We have had a few stoppages and glitches but overall. For using a brand-new platform, I am thankful for the healthy competition and fun it has generated. This new system will only get better.

Remember the goal of the promotion is to get our readers to participate in who THEY believe the best of a particular category is. Readers choose who to vote for and who they believe is best. The newspaper only provides a platform for the fun. The newspaper staff stays out of the promotion because overall we are extremely proud of the businesses and people in our community and would prefer to cheer them all on.

Like the previous few years, we are featuring two contests. This contest features the best people and places. The second contest later this year will be all about food, drink, arts, and entertainment. This year we are using new voting software to hold the contest. This comes with excitement and challenges.
